Thinking of going abroad for your Masters and don’t know what to do?
Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered!
The procedure for applying to a college abroad for your MS and MBA begins a year in advance. If you’re planning to go to the US for your MS or MBA in the Spring/Fall 2019, you should probably be well on top of things by now. Colleges which have courses beginning in the Fall of 2019 usually begin their application process by late August. This doesn’t mean that you can be magnanimous with your holidays and begin the application process in August. The earlier you start, the earlier you submit—and greater the chances of you striking when the iron is hot. 😀
The first question you must answer—have you given the GRE/GMAT and the TOEFL/IELTS? The GRE allows you to apply to four colleges for free, and that is when the process of shortlisting the colleges begins. Even if you have already given the GRE, you need to analyze and peruse through many factors before applying for colleges—the environment, the courses offered, the scholarship programs, the travel facilities, and the accommodation system among many others. 😀
The Statement of Purpose, or the SOP, requires at least a month to prepare. The SOP is a reflection of your application—it is the most conspicuous document and it expresses your ambition and attitude. Utilizing a significant chunk of your summer break to draft a watertight SOP will go a long way in boosting your application. Letters of Recommendation, or LORs, are imperative for any application. They are an indication of your hard work and perseverance towards your goal. Ideally, three LORs—two academic and one professional should suffice. You should make sure your LORs are in your hand and in order by the end of September/October. Academic Transcripts, attested with the college seal, often cause delays in processing and transporting. Therefore, contact your college authorities at the earliest and procure your transcripts as soon as possible. 😀
If the abovementioned documents are in order, fret not. You can still take your application a notch above the rest by interning at a company, or by doing some volunteer work. Colleges in the US take volunteer work dedicated towards social causes very seriously, and it would be a real feather in your cap if you can complete a good number of hours before the application process begins!
